I had the same problem. It seemed I needed to create a PIN to get it to work again.
Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options
Create a PIN and everything should work. I also added another finger print after I did this, so I am not sure if that made any difference either. I hope this helps.

Tried setting a PIN, no difference - still fails reading my fingerprint.
Like the OP, I can't run the SimplePass app to re-calibrate with my fingerprint. It's in All Apps > HP > HP SimplePass Identity Protection
Is that what you're using or is there another way? That one just doesn't run for me (no error message, just nothing).
Thanks..

I uninstalled HP SimplePass after upgrading to Windows 10. The only function I was using it for in Windows 8.1 was the Windows login.
After uninstalling HP SimplePass, I removed and added back my fingerprint in Windows Hello. Now I can log in on Windows 10 with my fingerprint.
You may want to get familiar with the HP Support site first to make sure you know how to download HP SimplePass, in case you decide you want it again. But if you were only using it for Windows login, I don't think you will miss it.

I use it to automatically sign into web pages. It still reads my fingerprint, launches the dialogue asking me which website to open, but when I select a website nothing happens. I assume it doesn't know how to launch the new edge browser? Did this solve your problem?

As I have just realized, HP SimplePass was the culprit process running in the background, causing me to get the dreaded 'blinking hourglass' next to my cursor. This was going off incessantly and using a lot of CPU/slowing me down. While SimplePass was otherwise working fine for me (just used to logon), it required me to completely turn it off to stop all of the annoyance. Has this been occurring with anyone else? For my purposes, I think I will try out the Windows Hello.

I downloaded Windows 10
I have always used the Fingerprint scanner to log on
However, Windows 10 disavowed recognition of my Fingerprints
That feature is now blocked due to too many unsuccessful attempts
I have not used a Password for years
I have no idea what my original PW could possibly be
How do I get the PC to
A. Recognize my Fingerprints
B. Use a PW which I don’t know
C. Dump Windows 10 to eliminate my new nightmare

I had the same problem when I updated to Windows 10. I had to download the latest version from HP. It works fine now but all my old identification information did not update to it. I did not delete the old version which I can use to retrieve the information using my computer password..thank God! Here is the link to the place were I downloaded the upgrade.

Epson dfx 8500 printer. It's not really documented that the machine will throw out any error it happens to be doing at the time if the sensor is bad.
